An Inconvenient PR Truth is a passionate plea to the PR Industry to take action to tackle the issue of pollution caused by the sending of press releases to journalists, editors, bloggers and publishers for whom they are irrelevant. This issue if left to continue, could cause irreparable damage to the influence that the PR industry seeks to achieve.

The way people share and consume media has changed forever and for the better.  But despite the many benefits that this phenomenon brings, we have witnessed, over the years, an increase in both written and anecdotal evidence from journalists and bloggers that the PR industry is creating even more pollution through irrelevant and untargeted press releases.  PR spam now appears to be at a level which is unacceptable; it is making it increasingly difficult for those in PR that are considerate and thoughtful to be effective.

Since RealWire’s inception as an online press release distribution company in 2001 we have been proud to be part of the online communication phenomenon.  We hope that by launching a robust debate now that the industry will turn the tide.  It’s not complex, it’s mostly common sense and it’s about taking the time to ensure that your press release is relevant to the people that you are sending it to.

So it is imperative that we all ask ourselves this question:
